Announcement: New Club Captain
Little Bardfield announce new Club Captain
In a stunning turn of events that has sent shockwaves through the cricketing world, not to mention the quaint hamlet of Little Bardfield, Rory "Rosco" Hitchcock has been appointed captain of Little Bardfield Village Cricket Club ahead of the 2024 season.
Rory is a born and bred Bardfield boy (having literally been born in Great Bardfield) who has played at the club for nearly 20 years. Having served the majority of those years as a bowler that batted towards the lower end of the order, Rory successfully negotiated his brother's deportation to New Zealand in 2022 claiming his opening batting spot in the process. In the 2023 season Rory was the club's highest wicket taker and second highest run scorer which, combined with his long-standing love for the game and club, make him a natural choice for the role.
When asked for his comments on taking on the club captaincy, Rory said (with tears of joy in his eyes):
"It's an honour and a privilege take on the Captaincy for a club I hold so close to my heart. It is of course not my first experience captaining the club having previously led what was arguably the most talented under 12s side in Little Bardfield's history. Since then I have hoped for the chance to apply those skills to the bigger stage and once again lead what I consider to be the greatest cricket team in the world. I'm stronger, quicker and four stone lighter than I was at 11 years old so it feels like the right time to take the reins and once again lead the Oxslips into battle."
Club Chairman Will Slemmings commented:
"Of course we were incredibly saddened to lose our previous Captain Richard Linney and I would like to put on record our sincere thanks to Richard for the hard work and dedication he poured into the club during his time as Captain and player. However, this has presented an opportunity for Rory to continue the work Richard started whilst putting his own stamp on things as one of our most high performing and longest standing club players. Added to some fresh blood joining the team this year we are incredibly excited to how these changes effect things on and off the field in 2024 and beyond!"
As the news of the new LBVCC Captain spreads like wildfire through the local community, one thing is certain; under the leadership of Hitchcock this mighty club is on course for one hell of a season…#UpTheOxSlips
